Marci Thomas
CPA, MHA
Marci Thomas, CPA, MHA, is an author and discussion leader for Loscalzo Associates, P.A., and also performs quality control and risk assessment consultations for the firm. Ms. Thomas is also a clinical assistant professor at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill where she teaches Health Care Consulting and Financial Leadership. From 1986 through 1999 and again in 2005, Ms. Thomas worked for Deloitte, primarily in the accounting and advisory services department. Most recently, she was Director in DeloitteConsulting in strategy and operations practice in the Atlanta ofï¬?ce. While at Deloitte, Ms. Thomas was nationally recognized for her work with managed healthcare, employee benefit plans, and the public sector, including State Employee Retirement Systems and state and local governments. She also worked extensively with organizations required to report under OMB Circular A-133. Ms. Thomas worked with Enterprise Governance including leveraging Sarbanes Oxley Act of 2002 requirements to add value to companies. In the late 90s, she lead the firm’s National HEDIS Product Committee and was on the National Regulatory Compliance Task Force, where she chaired the managed care subcommittee. Ms. Thomas received her Bachelor in Business Administration degree with a concentration in accounting from the Georgia State University and her Master of Health Administration degree at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. She is a frequent speaker at local, regional, and national conferences for groups such as the Healthcare Financial Management Association (HFMA), Healthcare Information Systems Society (HIMSS), Healthcare Compliance Association, and others. She has written articles for publications of the HFMA, HIMSS, and Healthcare Compliance Association and has won numerous awards for her work with those organizations. She is the treasurer of the Adair Estates Homeowners Association and is Vice Chair of the Georgia Society of CPAs Healthcare Section. In addition to writing numerous training manuals for Loscalzo Publishing, she is co-editor and author of a book published by Jossey Bass in 2004, Essentials of Physician Practice Management.
Kim Strom-Gottfried
Ph.D.
Dr. Kim Strom-Gottfried is the Smith P. Theimann Jr. Distinguished Professor of Ethics and Professional Practice at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill School of Social Work. She received her BSW from the University of Maine, her MSW from Adelphi University, and her PhD from Case Western Reserve University. She has worked in the nonprofit and public sectors as a clinician, program planner, and trainer. Dr. Strom-Gottfried teaches in the areas of direct practice, higher education, and human resource management. Her scholarly interests involve ethics, moral courage, and social work education. She is the former chair of the National Association of Social Workers’ National Committee on Inquiry and is active in training, consultation, and research on ethics and social work practice. She has written over 60 articles, monographs, and chapters on ethics and practice. She is the author of Straight Talk about Professional Ethics and The Ethics of Practice with Minors: High Stakes and Hard Choices. Dr. Strom-Gottfried is also the co-author of the texts Direct Social Work Practice and Teaching Social Work Values and Ethics: A Curriculum Resource. Dr. Strom-Gottfried currently holds an appointment as the University of North Carolina Institute for Arts & Humanities Associate Director for the Academic Leadership Program, which helps prepare and support the next generation of academic leaders.
