Did you add anything new to your routine during the COVID-19 pandemic? Although this past year had many downsides, I was determined to find activities that added sparkle to my day-to-day routine. In the process, I found a love for binging podcasts, and it ignited my fire to be a part of one.
Adding a podcast was always a lofty goal my AICPA® Tax Section team set before I joined it in 2016. Although I was eager to support this initiative, I wasn’t passionate about it until I discovered how much I enjoyed listening to podcasts.
We went through several iterations and recently tested a pilot with a video and audio series. Based on the popularity of the pilot, we knew we needed to take the series to the next level. Now, it’s June 2021 and I’m thrilled to announce the launch of the Tax Section Odyssey podcast. You can listen to each episode via your preferred podcast platform (Apple Podcasts, Spotify, Google Podcasts, etc.).
This podcast is designed to provide information on the latest tax developments, share trending issues and offer practice management tips to help elevate your professional development and firm practices. I’m your host, and will deliver the latest tax insights every two weeks –– which will sometimes include breaking news and topics that warrant more extensive discussion.
We’re two episodes in, and already have some great content to share — one episode on the intricacies of contingency fees when it relates to the employee retention credit (ERC) application and one episode on the outlook of potential tax legislation.
Do you need more reasons to subscribe to the podcast? Here you go.
Keep up to date on trending tax issues.
With so many information outlets, a lot of noise comes at you from all directions. My goal is to help filter out the noise and focus on the important tax and practice management matters that you need to know.
Hear what experts have to say.
Working with our AICPA and Tax Section members is one of my favorite parts of my job. Getting a chance to chat with well-known thought leaders in the tax world is also an honor and privilege, and I’m excited to share expert insights with our listeners.
Learn and multitask.
Some people are better than others at multitasking successfully. But, to meal-prep, fold laundry and learn something at the same time is a win-win in my book.
Listen anywhere, anytime.
The beauty of podcasts is that you can listen anywhere based on your schedule — in the car, on a jog, at the gym, at your desk, at the store and the list goes on.
Get entertained by storytelling and insights.
I was researching podcasts and stumbled upon a narrative about the tradition of verbal storytelling and how poems such as Homer’s “The Odyssey” — chronicling a king’s journey — were passed down from generation to generation. While we don’t tell fictional stories on this Tax Section Odyssey podcast, helping you through the journey of becoming a more well-rounded tax professional is one of the primary goals for the podcast.
I hope that I’ve convinced you to give the podcast a listen. If so, subscribe now.
